How to Prep Your Skin for Makeup Application

Whether you are getting ready to go to work or getting glam for a night on the town, makeup is probably a part of your daily routine. Prepping your skin before makeup application is very important, often times great makeup is thanks to the preparation that goes onto the skin first. And while every skin type is different, here are the basics of what we’ve learned on how to prep your skin properly for makeup application.

Start with Clean Skin
The first step should be cleansing your skin to remove any dirt, oil, and impurities.
Exfoliate
This is not something we recommend for every day, but at least 2x per week. It will help remove the build-up of dead skin cells and other gunk.
Tone It Up
Next, take your toner – our favorite is Daisy Blue’s Witch Hazel and Aloe Toner – and apply it to a cotton ball or pad. This will help remove any remaining impurities left behind after the cleansing.
Hydrate
This step is imperative – moisturize! Make sure to choose a product that works with your skin type.
Prime Time
While this step isn’t for everyone, a lot of the fresh and flawless looks you see are thanks to a primer. This will help create a smooth base for your makeup application and extend the wear.
